Rebuilding consists of renewing or repairing the mechanical parts of the piano that makes the sound. Refinishing usually refers to the exterior and is a completely different job. A piano that doesn't look pretty can still sound good. Don't be fooled. An ugly piano can sound just as great as a new one. Some people rebuild just the mechanical guts that make the sound.

When it comes to repair, there are a number of common problems: sticking keys, broken strings, sluggish or broken action parts and several others.

There are differences between individual pianos that only experience can determine, leading to the correct and most timely solution to a particular problem. With over 30 years of repair experience, Mr. Phillipps has fixed nearly every problem that a piano could possibly develop. He is able to give an accurate assessment of a repair problem leading to a fair appraisal of what it will take to correct the problem.
